Bucksport to Georgetown

We did an afternoon visit to Front St, Georgetown.  We anchored at 12:30, and I took the dinghy into Georgetown.

Later, Wally borrowed my 20-pound propane tank since his went empty while making his supper.  To my surprise, my tank was almost empty. 

The next morning, I set up the Nespresso machine for my neighbours.  Only Kathy took me up on the Offer of Espresso. 

Inspired by Julie's exercising aboard Summer Salt, I did my Yoga on my own.  We departed at 8:30 for Georgetown.  Easy motoring on the Waccamaw River.  It was easy - mostly wide and deep. 

Arrived at 12.  Ystop, Faithful and xxx anchored while Gypsy Wind, Midnight and Summer Salt took a slip. 

We had some beer and snacks, and then went for Pizza.

I went out for a walk and ended up at Walmart, where I picked up some groceries.  That's where I met Robbie and Esteban, and we decided to share an Uber.  I loaded up on essentials, including two propane tanks for the Kettle BBQ, potatoes, and a case of beer.  No UBER wanted to come, nor Lyft or Taxi.  It was a three-km walk, but the groceries were heavy. 

Eventually, Robbie got an Uber after walking about a quarter of a kilometre.  An adventure!  Had my salmon aboard on the Magma Grill.  It worked much better now that I applied WD-40 to the regulator.

The next day was Veterans' Day, and Georgetown held a small-town parade.  After the parade, we went to the Uber driver's (Joseph) Brew Bed and Breakfast for some craft brew.

North Myrtle Beach to Bucksport Plantation Marina, SC

On Saturday, November 9, we departed Barefoot Landing for Bucksport RV and Marina, a campground / Marina.

It was actually after their season, and the place was deserted, with tumbleweed floating around.  Not much is happening.

Southport NC to Barefoot Landing Marina North Myrtle Beach SC

Bucksport Marina is a resort in North Myrtle Beach. 

We decided to exit the ICW into the ocean and return to Little River, making our way to Barefoot Marina, where we were allowed to stay overnight at their day docks due to Wally's negotiations. 

Barefoot is a family entertainment resort featuring arcades, shops, bars, and restaurants. 

We had supper at Lulu's, which was by Lucy Buffet, the sister of Jimmy.  Happy hours Margaritas for 5$. 

The location was tranquil as the season ended at Labour Day.  We had wine and cheese at the docks on our own, as there were no services - even the Internet was not working. 

They don't usually let boats dock overnight, but Wally was able to negotiate an arrangement to let us spend the night there.

I BBQ'd my last steak on the Kettle BBQ because the winds were from astern and kept blowing out the flame.  The Kettle performed well as usual.

Whitesville Beach to Morning Star marina at Southport - Movie Set

It was about a 25-mile run. 

It was the morning after Trump won the election, the night before. 

I got fuel.  Very empty.  16.5 gals, about 63 litres 

The trip started slowly and shallowly, then broader and deeper. 

I docked at Morning Star Marina at Southport.  Nice docks, good help from staff and excellent facilities, but expensive at $103 per night without power. 

Supper with Robbie and Esteban.  The town harbour was a movie set for a TV series called Waterfront.  Quite an extensive setup.  They've taken up the whole harbour town.

The next day, Thursday, November 7, was wet, and I washed Bellum's deck, and it rained heavily throughout the afternoon.  I got a lot of PC work done on my laptop. 

In the evening, we had supper at Provision, the restaurant stayed open for us.  Service was very casual; we had to order at the service counter and pick up our beer from the coolers ourselves.  The food was good and quite reasonable.  It was way off-season for Southport.

Wrightsville Beach to Mile Hammock Bay (Camp Lejeune), NC

Hammock Bay is located within a military fire zone where artillery fire is practiced.

Nice anchorage.  I didn't leave the boat.

The trip from Beaufort to Swansboro was uneventful.  We sailed towards the bridge, aiming to arrive in time for the scheduled crossing. 

Swansboro was a small residential town.  We stayed at the city docks.  Their computers were not working, and it seems we were not charged for the docks. 

A crazy local

Dave, a fan of Wally, bought pizza for everyone.  I went back to the boat and went to bed early.  The next morning, departure was challenging due to the current. We went to an anchorage at Hammock Bay.  A pleasant anchor. 

The next morning, we departed for a 33-mile ride to Wrightsville Beach for two nights.  Winds were strong, and tides were 4 feet, making anchoring in a crowded anchorage challenging.

I was going to refuel, but the winds were blowing me off the dock. 

After two attempts, I gave up and anchored at another location nearby.  I dinghy into town, but not much is happening after dark. 

The next day, we got together for lunch at Oceanic, and I walked on the beach back to my dinghy.  The others took the dinghy directly to Oceanic.

On my way back, I walked on a large beach and flew the drone.

Oriental To Beaufort NC

We were to leave at 9:30 for Beaufort.  I got up early enough to get a coffee from the Bean and visited the provisioning store beside the marina. 

Everyone had started their engine, so I started mine.  Nobody left, so I departed from the free dock and headed out slowly, eventually making my way towards Beaufort. 

The Aqua map, with its seamless integration with the US Corps of Engineers' USACE surveys, proved to be a reliable guide in Adam's Creek. 

Mark and I both found suitable anchorages, while the others opted for a dock at the city marina, showcasing our group's flexibility and adaptability. 

We had a meeting to discuss the upcoming closure of the Onslow bridge from November 4-7, 7 AM to 9 PM.

Oct 31 and Nov 1: Beaufort 

Nov 2: Swansboro 

Nov 3: Mile Hammock Bay

Nov 4 and 5: Wrightsville Beach 

Nov 6 and 7: Southport 

We visited the Maritime Museum, took the London double-decker tour, and explored a couple of cemeteries.

We were thrilled to have a tour of a private Trumpy motor yacht called Freedom, a highlight of our trip.
